Foreign media news on December 13: Peru's Ministry of Mines and Energy said that copper production in the world's second largest copper market reached 240,097 tons in October, an increase of 1.9 percent over the same period last year.
Peru is the world's second-largest copper producer after neighboring Chile.
The increase in production was mainly due to the strong performance of Anta Paiyi Mining Company, which is controlled by Glencore. The company's output increased by nearly 36% year-on-year; in addition, the output of Southern Copper Company, a subsidiary of the Mexican group, also increased by nearly 7 percentage points.
From January to October this year, Peru's copper production was about 2.25 million tons, a year-on-year increase of slightly more than 14%.
In May, a report by Wood Mackenzie, a consultancy, said the Democratic Republic of Congo could overtake Peru as the world's second-largest copper producer in the next few years. After that, the Peruvian government said it would try to boost production.
The Peruvian government said gold, zinc, lead, silver and tin production also increased in October, while iron and molybdenum production declined. (Tongyunhui)
